Testimonials from Families

"My daughter is an 8th grader and has been at SLA-MS since 5th grade. We are very pleased with the school. I'm impressed with the education that my daughter is receiving. The teachers hold each kid accountable for their work but never hesitate to help them. They make her want to do better. They help her to think outside of the box. I'm impressed with the level that each teacher will go to to reach the children. I'm glad I picked this school and wouldn't want her to be anywhere else!

"As a parent, you want your child to receive a great education while being encouraged to be themselves. SLA-MS offers that type of environment and more. We are grateful to our SLA-MS staff, they are more than family!"

"There are many reasons why I like SLA-MS. I really enjoy the project based learning style. I feel it gives children a better perspective of how people actually work in the 'real world.' Being able to interact in a group  setting to diagnose, observe, create, and solve is a tremendous skill. This type of learning keeps my daughter interested and excited about school. Plus, she's been build great relationships with her teachers and advisors, that always give her the support she needs to move forward."

"Had I designed a school to fit my son's personality and educational needs, it would look a lot like SLA-MS. A project-based inquiry-driven approach means students have much more agency in their own education than in a traditional school. The adults of SLA-MS encourage students to find their direction and support them in their choices. I also apprecaite that SLA-MS is not a competitive entry school that only accepts children with high standarized test scores. The project-based curriculum is almost like an individualized learning plan, which means you can have students in one classroom who are at different learning levels do meaningful work at their level. Our son is thriving at SLA-MS and we are so thankful this school exists!"

              - Meg R. parent of Matias B.

"In making the decision to have one, and now both of my children, attend SLA-MS, what sold me as a parent was the approach towards student learning. I really appreciate and think very relevant that the school emphasizes students taking control of their learning and having them reflect on what they learned, why it is important, and how they would approach the subject matter differently next time depending upon how that learning experience turned out. Too often, we tell our kids what they need to know without them knowing why they should know it. Most importantly, I am a huge advocate of having students articulate these thoughts. I also love that the coursework often requires the students to work together and challenge them to figure out how to navigate group dynamics across interest, ability, and motivation. And while my kids may say that their favorite thing about SLA-MS is having a Chromebook, not having to wear a uniform, and not doing any worksheets, I think the real proof is the fact that they NEVER complain about going to school and complain incessantly when they have to miss school. Now that is priceless! "
